The Calcutta High Court has ordered a second post-mortem on the death of the BJP booth president, Vijaykrishna Bhuiya, who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered in Maina in East Medinipur.
The family approached the High Court on Tuesday, stating that they did not trust the state police. On Wednesday, Justice Raja Shekhar Mantha ordered a second autopsy to be held at Command Hospital after 4 pm on the same day, which will be videographed. Central forces have been deployed for four weeks to provide security to the family, and the state has been directed to submit a report in this case next Monday.
During the hearing, Sourav Chattopadhyay, the lawyer of the litigant, mentioned that 100 criminal cases were filed in that area in a year, and all of them are BJP supporters. He also claimed that the police are providing security to the criminals.
The state lawyer, Amitesh Banerjee, said that the incident is unfortunate and the post-mortem was conducted before a judge. Bullets were found in the body, and the family did not want to take the body. The state has no objection to conducting a second autopsy and providing security to the family.
The state BJP leadership is satisfied with the High Court's decision to order a second post-mortem. BJP state president Sukanta Majumder said that this directive would facilitate the arrest of criminals, and the police had failed to fulfill its duty. He also thinks that the removal of the Superintendent of Police is necessary.
On the other hand, Pradesh Congress President Adhir Chowdhury said that the court had to intervene because the police were not taking action. However, the question remains, why was Bhuiya killed, and such incidents are happening everywhere, not just in Maina.
